Lead It Better Than You Found It

Presented by: Brian Brush, Chief of Training, Midwest City, OK, Fire Department

The root word of succession is success and by breaking down the term in this manner it can argued that true success as a leader may not be fully measured until presence and influence are separated. This keynote will be a discussion on the process and planning of succession in the fire service because, while it is extensive, the overall practice is absent. Brush believes that true succession will not be accomplished until the vision of it is shifted from organizational projects to personal goals. When goals are focused on tangible accomplishments from the past that are measured in the present, the gauge of influence is what was left behind. If succession was a personal goal, the focus would be on the using the experience of your past and influence in the present to guide advancement and assistance of others into the future. Join Brian Brush for the Firehouse Expo 2020 keynote address- a rich discussion on a different look at leadership and legacy.
