Instructors:

Karen Leming

Karen Leming is an active tenor drummer with the Puget Sound Firefighters Pipes & Drums and the Lead Tenor for the IAFF Massed Band. She is a retired Firefighter/EMT/Engineer with the Tacoma, WA, Fire Department  She has been a member of the Puget Sound Firefighters’ Pipes & Drums since 2008 and currently sits as the Vice President and lead tenor for the band.  She also serves as the Commander Emeritus of the Tacoma Firefighters’ Honor Guard. Karen has instructed tenor drumming at Keeping Tradition Alive, FDIC, IAFF Firefighters’ Memorial and Firehouse Expo. Karen resides with her husband Tom in South Prairie, WA and is a proud new grandmother.

Courtney Rice

Courtney Rice serves as the Pipe Major for the Indianapolis Public Safety Pipes and Drums and Senior Pipe Major, FDIC Pipes and Drums.  Courtney has 27 years of bagpiping experience having played in three different bands: Indianapolis 500 Gordon Pipers, Dalriada Society Pipes and Drums and Indianapolis Public Safety Pipes and Drums (formerly Indianapolis Firefighters Emerald Society Pipes and Drums). Courtney is currently competing as a grade 4 piper in MWPBA. He helped organize the changeover from FDIC being played by a single pipe band to creating one of the largest massed band events in the fire service.
