The Apparatus Architects will review each of these areas and practical recommendations to assist your departments apparatus committee during the procurement process.

Pumpers: Design, Body Configurations, Plumbing

Course will review the different options to consider when purchasing a pumper. Body styles and what that means for the apparatus in compartmentation, hose beds, and ground ladder storage will be discussed. Pump panel, location and layout, pump plumbing including intake and discharge options will be discussed to understand how a department can maximize the pumpers versatility and take advantage of the modern pumper/diesel engine options.

Purchasing an Aerial Ladder: What You Need to Know

The pros and cons, both operationally and in design, of the different aerial devices. Important decisions your department must make before designing your next aerial ladder in order to purchase a rig that will fit your needs will be discussed. Topics include deciding on mid-mount vs. rear-mount vs tiller aerials and whether an elevated platform is beneficial. Presenters will also discuss how to best equip and lay out your apparatus so that tools, ladders and components are easily accessible while making sure the rig is mission-ready based on response needs.

Developing Apparatus Specifications: How to Detail Your Departments Requirements is the critical first step to the apparatus procurement process. The apparatus needs analysis is the process to identify and evaluate needs that are specific to the community in which the apparatus is to protect. It further ensures you are purchasing apparatus based upon both current and future needs of your community as well as ensuring you remain fiscally responsible to your constituency.

The Firehouse Expo PPE Purchasing Committee is designed to educate attendees about the latest advances in firefighting and rescue PPE to ensure the proper gear is being purchased for your members. The speakers will talk about the changes to NFPA 1851 PPE standards, trends in fabrics and materials and what fire departments need to consider when outfitting its members with gear that's functional, comfortable and provide ultimate protection.

Firefighting PPE Evaluations: From the Need to the Selection

This PPE class takes the attendee from the need for new or updated firefighting PPE through the entire evaluation process, including the selection and distribution of the item. All five elements of the firefighter ensemble (helmet, hood, gloves, coat/pant and boots) will be discussed. The certification testing methods will be presented to give the attendee a working knowledge of their value as it relates to the item. Actual items will be presented in an already dissected format in order to explain the need of the individual layers as they relate to the finished item.
