Dewitt Fire District
Timothy S. Cowan is a retired Deputy Fire Chief / Fire Marshal with the City of Oneida Fire Department (N.Y.) and a 29-year veteran of fire and emergency services. Cowan currently serves as a deputy chief with the Dewitt Fire District (N.Y.) and an active volunteer with the Canastota Fire Department (N.Y.). He is a member of the NFPA 1030 Technical Committee - Life Safety Educator. He is also a Deputy Fire Coordinator and Fire Instructor for Madison County (N.Y.). Cowan is active with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and is currently a New York State Advocate for the Everyone Goes Home (EGH) program. Currently, he is completing the first year of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Cowan earned an Associate Degree in Fire and Emergency Services and a Bachelor’s degree in Fire and Emergency Management both from the State University of New York at Empire State. He is also a member of the International Codes Council Fire Service Membership Council Governing Committee representing the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Eastern Division. Cowan is a Fire Officer (FO) and Fire Marshal (FM) designee and peer reviewer for the Center of Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).
