Name
Can-Tanker-ous Wisdom: The Art and Science of Moving Water
Description

Moving water without the luxury of a municipal water system is part art and part science. When the need to implement an alternative water supply arises, it is critical that firefighters be well versed in both parts of the process. While the core of this class focuses on the hands-on skills of executing a water shuttle, the art, there will be plenty of explanation as to why things are done in a particular manner, the science. The class will dig into the setup and execution of each element of a successful shuttle—dump site, fill site, water source, routing, apparatus and staging. Attendees will also have significant time on the pump panel to develop drafting skills and best methods to fill tenders. The class culminates in several evolutions where attendees will put everything together into scenarios, starting from arrival at the fire to fully developed flows of more than 1,000 gpm.
