Jack Smith is the chief of the Ohio Fire Academy and vice-chair of the Ohio Task Force on Volunteer Fire Service established by Governor Mike Dewine in 2022. Smith spent the first 10 years of his 38-year fire service career as a volunteer firefighter. He has served as a firefighter, company officer, battalion chief, and training officer in both the Cincinnati and Dayton, OH, areas. He also served for 10 years as an urban search and rescue specialist on FEMA’s Ohio Task Force-1 and Hamilton County USAR Task Force. Smith holds a bachelors’ degree in business administration, a master’s degree in emergency and disaster management, and is a contributing author in two Mass Casualty Disaster Response textbooks.
