Jason Moore is the fire chief for the City of Bloomington, IN, Fire Department. He began his fire service career in 2000 as a fire protection specialist for the U.S. Air Force, where he served several tours in the Middle East including one year as a civil service contractor. Following his federal service, Moore was hired as a company officer in the Charleston, SC, region where he eventually promoted to the position of operational battalion chief within a five department auto-aid group. He has three degrees including a bachelor’s of fire science and master’s of business administration from Columbia Southern University in addition to a master’s of science in management from Strayer University. During his six-year tenure as chief, BFD has improved to an ISO 1/1X, developed innovative service delivery programs, and boasts 11 civilian saves with zero fire-caused fatalities since 2017. Moore currently serves on the IAFC Technology Council and is working on the EFO/GFOA Task Force to help develop financial literacy curriculum for Chief Officers. He is involved at the State level through his membership with the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association, development cohort for Fire Officer 1-4 programming, and instructor for the Indiana Executive Fire Officer course.
