Nelvin Young Experience was obtained working on the family farm in Ohio, where he gained respect for safety and machine knowledge, while utilizing the large farm equipment. Young entered the fire service in Warsaw, Ohio as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT in 1988. In 1989, Young worked part-time for Liberty township in Powell, Ohio to further develop truck experience. Young began his fire service with Columbus Fire Department in 1991, spending most of his career on Ladder 1 and Ladder 23. In addition, he serves as an Ohio certified fire Instructor for the Columbus Training Academy and serves as a member on the Departments Ladder Committee. Young is a recognized expert in aerial operations, tilling, general truck operations and trained as a rescue technician. He has served on both tractor trailer drawn aerials and mid-ship mounted platforms. Young also began serving as an Ohio certified fire instructor at the State Fire Academy in 1992, specializing in Aerial Ladder Operations. He has served with state, county and local fire agencies within the state of Ohio, providing him with a strong foundation in many aspects of the fire service. Young also utilizes a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to deliver State Fire training trailers around the state. As a firefighter with 32-years of experience, he stands ready to help departments bring TEAMWORK to firefighting.
