| Joe Downey Battalion Chief FDNY, Task Force 1  Joe Downey has served with FDNY for 25 years. The Rescue Battalion responds to all technical rescues and multiple alarm fires in the five boroughs of New York City. Downey was the Captain of Squad 18 during the events of 9-11 and lost his father D.C. Raymond M. Downey who was Chief of Rescue Services. Seven members of company Squad 18 were killed as well as 100 members of the Special Operations Command. He has been a member of NY-TF1's Urban Search and Rescue Team since its inception in 1991; a leader for the past seven years and responded to Hurricanes Marilyn , Katrina, Ivan/Gustav as well as the Democratic National Convention in Massachusetts as a standby. Recently Downey responded to the earthquake in Haiti with an 80 member task force from NYC. Their mission in Haiti NY-TF1 was involved with 6 successful rescues.
